Saint-Gobain Design Engineer I in Worcester, Massachusetts
Saint-Gobain Abrasives is looking for a candidate to work in a fast paced, service oriented manufacturing/design department. The candidate will be responsible for performing the engineering design work and timely preparation of engineering drawings in a clear, complete, concise and accurate manner for the various products manufactured. The incumbent will also be accountable for daily report writing and maintaining the DI System of the creation of UPC Shells and the creation of UPC’s using AION which will create accurate bills of material and routings ( including lead times and rates ) will also be included in the daily performance of the job.
Key areas of accountability will be as follows:
Provide clear, concise, complete and accurate drawings/details, bill of materials, routers and work instructions for use in the quotation and manufacture of products from a variety of sources that conform to company standards. These include: proposal drawings, sketches, new product drawings, and other new design concepts, as well as redesigns of old systems.
Provide technical guidance for wheel development and work in conjunction with Supervisor of Product Design , Product Engineering technical support group, manufacturing area and others.
Assist factory supervision and personnel in trouble shooting manufacturing problems which are design related.
Provide clarification of manufacturing instructions as documented on blueprints and manufacturing masters.
Work with customers on engineering designs and design changes.
Ensure that product designs maximize performance through most favorable use of the manufacturing processes.
Ensure designs minimize manufacturing costs without sacrificing product’s effectiveness.
Respond to emergency situations, acting as the focal point between customers and manufacturing, planning, purchasing and shipping departments.
Plan on daily reports that will schedule the work backlog in the Product Design ares.
Create UPC’s using the Aion and Shell process.
The successful candidate should possess the following requirements:
Bachelors Degree preferred in Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent relative work experience
2 to 4 years’ work experience in a multi-discipline-engineering environment
Prior experience in product application, manufacturing or development, and a strong mechanical aptitude
Good quantitative and computer skills for analysis and tracking of projects, market and manufacturing information and understanding of manufacturing related issues.
Must be skilled in Engineering Design and Drafting techniques and possess equivalent successful work experience in CAD drawing and design.
Must have a good working knowledge of both materials and processes of the manufactured products.
Must possess the ability to read and accurately interpret part/geometric specifications and must be capable of extracting information to develop wheel design specifically, tool room, gear, aerospace, medical, automotive, and other grinding applications.
Design core and mold designs are also a requirement of this position.
Must be capable of performing area and volume calculations, and cost estimates and have the ability to create routers/bill of materials and edits to SAP.
Must have working knowledge of the relationship between engineering design accuracy and the use of CNC equipment, as well as demonstrated application of CAD/CAM in the manufacturing environment.
Must have the ability to use AutoDesk package, AutoCad and Inventor is required. Must be proficient in algebra, geometry and trigonometry which is essential for this position.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
Able to make independent decisions as well as operate in a team environment.
